Sam Simmons advertises mattresses

...in a typically bizarre way

Sam Simmons took over a daytime TV infomercial in his native Australia this week, possibly confusing the regular viewers.

The comic appeared on Nine’s Today Extra to promote the Slumber-Tech mattress in the guise of a spokesman for the company.

He gushed about its many layers and the patented Steel Pressure Regulating Inverted Neo Gravitational Support System – or SPRINGS.

But when he revealed the $7,500 (£5,800) cost – which could be met in 72 bi-weekly $104 payments – he broke down, saying there was no way he could afford that price tag.

The ad turned out to be a spoof created by real company Koala mattresses, which was only mentioned in passing at the end when Simmons told real Channel Non presenter Yvette Done: 'Have you heard of Koala? It costs less than a grand and they delver in fur hours. How do they even do that?'

Koala said in a statement: 'We came up with a fake mattress company and bought an infomercial on Channel Nine and this is what happened. Sorry, Yvette.'

The spoof seems to echo Get Krack!n, Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney's parody daytime show on the ABC.
