As the parent of a child who suffered with cancer, I was pretty upset that he opened with gags about it; I wasn't the only one not laughing and I am challenged to find anything funny about such a subject. That said, as soon as he moved on, I really enjoyed seeing him live. I would definitely tell people to go. He is a funny guy, but a poor start is never good. There are things that just aren't funny - and that's one of them.

We went to see him at the NIA and totally agree with the comments already posted - we felt really let down. The show was flat and the audience reaction reflected that. It was uncomfortable to watch, and very disappointing. I am not a prude by any means but gratuitous use of the C-word is not funny when the rest of the gags are so lame.

I love The Office and extras but was disappointed by his performance in Birmingham last night. I've laughed more watching TV. As soon as he'd finished instead of prolonged applause the audience applauded briefly then immediately stood to leave. I wouldn't recommend it.

Disappointing. £25 a ticket and I could hardly see Gervais as the venue was so big. Instead of getting screens so that people in the back section of the 4500 capacity venue there was an enormous name in lights sign, which kind of grated on everyone at the back. The jokes were tired and I am seriously his biggest fan usually, I couldn't believe it.

Went to see him at the NIA last week. Don't get me wrong, I am an avid Ricky Gervais fan, went to see Politics and Animals but this show was weak. As per the review, the subjects were tired, and the effort levels were seemingly below par. Hopefully he'll give the stand up a miss in future and concentrate on making television and film comedies. For £25 I was expecting more, and actually felt a little bit bored after approximately 45 minutes.

Absolutely brilliant lecture! Makes light of very sensitive topics in the true Gervais style, highly recomended.

Exactly what you expect from Mr Gervais. Fantastic opening, sets it up for an hour of classic Ricky stuff. I was in tears of laughter, and gutted when it ended. Definitely worth the £25 if you appreciate Ricky's humour as I do

He had flu in manchester which I think affected his performance, im a huge Ricky fan but I have to be honest, some of the material was weak

Wat a rip off. £25 for barely an hour. fairly amusing but nowhere near as funny or as likeable as someone like Daniel Kitson who doesn't have the fame he deserves but gives you more than value for money

My favourite part of Ricky Gervais' stand up's is the analysing of things he doesn't understand. His portrayal of what the Virgin Mary MIGHT have said to Joseph to explain her preganancy to her husband (from the perspective of an intelligent athiest) is hilarious. Along with all the other over analysing. And although it has become something that he is quite good at doing, I also believe it is quite a clever thing to do. It ridicules things such as religion and the bible to even Aids. And in all honesty although he exagerates, adds an accent and some uncomfortable twiddling of his legs to play the characters...such as the Virgin Mary, there is an element you can actually believe in. Rather than look at this and say but all he is doing is making up his own explanation for things that he could't have otherwise explained with evidenece, so to speak, we should be saying....that works! Because let's face it nobody else is explaining it

Went to see him in Cardiff and did not stop laughing the whole time. I admit I am a huge Gervais fan, and he may not be to everyone's liking, but if you like him, you cannot afford to miss this.

Having read the review I can see what Steve Bennett is saying on a technical level if I compare the show to say Jack Dee. As just a punter with no background in stand up however I wouldn't have picked it up on my own. Ricky had the audience in the palm of his hand right from the off and held them for a good hour with just a little drift off peak performance towards the end. Having been disappointed with Billy Connolly and mortified by Jackie Mason who was frankly crap, it was nice to have my faith restored in the 'big names' with a performance for which I was happy to part with my 25 quid. Highly recommended - good luck trying to find a ticket.
