I wonder if the judges were at the same place I and the rest of the audience were. Eddie Hoo, yes, really good but Mick Sargeant, who gave a flat performance (watching someone pour water into a glass is not funny) and is in any case a rip-off of the Geordie character in the Alan Partidge programmes. And as for Ben Davis, I think Steve Bennett confuses slow delivery with dragging it out and not being very funny. He fell flat most of the time. There was one other act that should have been a winner and that was Rachel Fairburn. Contrary to Steve Bennett's remark's she has some great punchlines. The diversity of her material is outstanding and the cool delivery is perfect for intelligent content of her set. This is clever stuff and I would advise anyone to go and see her soon. Rachel did a joke about being mugged but on this night, she was robbed.
To be fair I was in bed all weekend ill and on a concoction of Lemsip, Guinness and aspirin so I'm not surprised I was flat, depressive and lifeless. Would it have been better not to have turned up? I wonder. I gave a much better account of myself in the heat. Peace and Love! Peace and Love!
