Distract and Conquer

+
Description

Distract and Conquer features the stand-up comedy of Nick Elleray and Joshua Ross, alongside a variety of specially chosen guest acts over the month. Joshua combines offbeat wordplay with an askew world view, Nick blends wry stupidity and lo-fi storytelling. At the end of each show the audience have the chance to take on a comic in The Daily Test of Mettle.

I performed the guest spot at the first show of Distract and Conquer today. The audience was small due to it being the first day, and the room is a strange one, but it was a really fun gig to play, the enthusiastic audience we did have really bought into the personal nature of what was going on and had great fun. Elleray and Ross, moreover, make for a great and highly entertaining pairing - Elleray is the slightly world-weary, authoritarian Australian with some brilliantly written routines about his confusion at the state of the world that surrounds him, while Ross's set consists largely of one-liners that are performed with such a resigned, mocking self-awareness that they transcend their own simplicity to become really very funny. A great double act that deserves to draw in bigger crowds over the course of the Fringe.
