Jarlath Regan: Shock And Ahh!
Show type: Edinburgh Fringe 2011
No silly promises, no stupid gimmicks, no cheap tricks. Just a “subtle yet sublime helping of observational wit that’s both intelligent and humorous without ever sounding forced” (Herald).

All I know is I laughed practically all the way through!

Well this punter found it to be a very funny and enjoyable show with heart. This reviewer sounds like a really miserable so and so.

Quite frankly, the review does not match up to what I saw. Jarlath Regan is taking risks with his obvious talent, tackling a subject most would never touch and doing so in a way that you virtually never see in stand up comedy. Whatever teething problems this reviewer may have witnessed were nowhere in sight on the day I saw it. The show rattles along at a breakneck pace for the vast majourity of the hour, involves some exquisite pieces of audience interaction (never mentioned in the review), includes some laugh out loud video footage (never mentioned in the review) and one story that reduced the person next to me to a giggling mess. Jarlath's new show is the definite proof that this is "a comedian on the up" rather than the opposite. This is an incredibly brave, wickedly funny and inspiring show by a comedian obviously trying to break from the norm. He should be applauded for it.

I totally agree with the review, I saw Jarlath on Weds (10th Aug) at the Fringe but I also so him last year in Edinburgh and in 2009 and gradually his skills as a comedian have left him. In 2009 I thought he had such promise, in that he told inoffensive stories in such a charming way. Last years show was a bit self indulgent with some weird shit with horses heads but that was nothing compared to this tragedy of a show. From what I see Jarlath is a really nice guy but due to some personal issues this year and maybe not being as successful as he thought he would by now I think he has lost his love and/or ability for comedy. Jarlath should of taken a year away from the Fringe this year and really put a slick show together for 2012. A year when I think I will not be attending his show.
