At this year's Edinburgh Fringe festival, we were highly entertained by a superb songster with a rich baritone voice, interspersing his popular traditional songs with humorous anecdotes of his attempts, usually unsuccesful, to find love. He spoke and sang from the heart but with a warmth and cheeky sincerity that displayed him as an entertainer of high quality. Every one of these songs he delivered with aplomb: Singing in the Rain,Haven't We Met, Come Fly With Me, Zing! Went the Strings of my Heart, Child in Me, High Hopes, Begin the Beguiner. Very well worth a visit to this free show.

Went to see this show today and was hugely disappointed. He turned up late explained that he'd been handing out fliers and then went off to change. Meanwhile the audience sat there waiting... When he finally joined us, Jonathan (never Jon) made a point of getting to know his audience and due to the size of the room knew most of our names before the show ended. Sorry, scrap that - he repeatedly got two names wrong. If you're going to use tactics like that to endear the crowd to you at least get their names right. I saw no evidence of the blazing wit but plenty of 'isn't my life a bit of a mess?' 'I have ADD - ooh look at me' and 'women, what do they want?' kind of material. Before typing this review I searched to see other reviews and found one from 2009 which sounds like the material complete with tardy entry has not changed. Yes it was a free ticketed event but someone needs to spend the time telling this guy that ADD or no ADD, this is not the kind of attention anyone needs.
