Comedy Bitch: Them Is Us

It is infuriating when ‘performers’ – and I use that word in the loosest sense – bring shows to the Fringe with the sole purpose of entertaining themselves, and then have the audacity to charge money to watch them have a jolly for an hour.

This group of three guys and three girls have come up with a handful of ideas for sketches without any concept of what a punchline is, then stretched them by repeating the same thing over and over again to fill an hour.

A prime example of this inept attempt at comedy is a spoof of EastEnders which essentially entails three people standing shouting ‘you heard’ at each other for a stupidly extended period of time in generic chav accents, followed by someone exclaiming ‘I'm pregnant’. The parody becomes apparent when they then shoddily impersonate the drums from the soap’s theme tune to close the sketch. Have I given away a punchline? Was there a punchline?

And so it continues, a vapid pile of nonsense spouted by six people who are clearly enjoying the experience much more than the several audience members who walked out. Each skit dragged out to a tortuously punchline and point-free anticlimax.

Only one member of the troupe appeared to have any true charisma or sense of timing but the fact that he has chosen to associate himself with this travesty makes his comedy acumen questionable at best.

This is not so bad it's good. It is excruciatingly dull and will leave you feeling cheated, bored and possibly angry that you've not only wasted money, but an hour of your life on this poor excuse of a show.

What an unnecessarily personal and poor review. Not every sketch worked, but it was relief to see a group stretching boundaries and doing something different for a change.

This is one of the best hours of my life, the genius of comedy,my sides still ache and all my friends here with me in Edinburgh also agree>Comedy Bitch is excellent, talented and very funny.I wanted more, they the best I have seen! 5 stars from me !

Agree with other posters. The point of some of the skits was confusion. Do we really need a predictable punchline for everything? I thought the husband and wife writing a play about each other was genius. Just because there's no build-up then pay off like most comedy doesn't mean it doesn't have its merits. Indeed, to move away from the norm takes some skill in itself. While maybe not being a 5, this show is far more original than most stand-up and theatre. To review the reviewer, she seems conservative and myopic. 2.5/5.

I thought they were really good actually. Saw them last year aswell, and they were brilliant. There were some ones i didn't understand like the Macdonalds one, and i didn't find the dogboy one funny but that might be my age. Everyone else was laughing and loving it. I actually loved the Eastenders one, and the girl having the voice over argurment and the party in the pants one was really funny. I think they are a very talented group, and their show was one of the best Ive seen here.

I personally loved this show. I saw these guys last year and loved them and was excited to see them again this year. I have sent several friends to see it since and everyone who I have sent to see it appears to have recommended it to someone else to see... surely this being the ultimate testament to the entertainment value of any show?? This review is absolute nonsense to me and having previously respected the judgement of chortle, I have clearly been mistaken and wonder what other little diamonds of comedy I may have missed out on as a result. Boo to you Corry Shaw.

I too feel that this is a very aggressive, unfair and damaging review to a sketch group who have the imagination and audacity to try and avoid the painfully obvious. I agree, the EastEnders sketch isn't very good but to say that the guys can't even perform is insulting. The group, whom I saw twice have excellent comic timing, have gelled exceptionally well together and although there may be no obvious punch lines to their sketches you should be more open to the originality and creativity they clearly possess. The Knightrider sketch is genius as is 'friends for you' and 'dogboy'. Dark, original comedy. Comedy Bitch are well worth the ten pounds I paid and I would put money on them becoming a success in the future.

Waay too harsh. Whilst not every sketch is entirely coherent or as on-the-nose as punch in the face, plenty of people understood and enjoyed this show (in the audience that I was a part of at least). Grow a brain!
