Wil Hodgson: Chippenham on My Shoulder
Punk rock folk storyteller returns with more tales of Spice Girl dolls, street fighters and small town alienation. As odd as it sounds, but also funny

Saw this show by accident and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Karen, August 2008 |

Will is brilliant! I love him to bits! This is one show you don't want to miss. Maggie North, August 2008 |

I had high hopes for this show - mostly based on last year's review. To be honest it was a let-down. You could see that the material was incredibly well written. You could see what Wil was trying to get at. Every so often you would have the big laugh that you felt it deserved - but it just wasn't funny enough. His trademark (I read elsewhere) style made it seem like he was reading the lines - and yes some were so funny you laughed but mostly they made me think how clever. Probably better on the page than out loud. The device of being sponsored by Chippenham FC was a great setup to a fantastic breakdown of a hack comedian's set but again not laugh out loud. There is a fantastic take on the world here but it seemed to be choked by its own cleverness You can easily do worse than Wil this year but this just needs more work Andy, August 2008 |
