Graeme Thomas: Who Do I Complain To?

Show Rating:Graeme Thomas: Who Do I Complain To? rated 2/5

Graeme Thomas is undoubtedly bright, engaging and witty. His interaction with his audience is affable and polite. He obviously has some talent. The fatal flaw is in the material, which is just too mundane and frankly too dull to carry a show.

Thomas takes us on a pleasant ramble around his minor gripes with his world. He discusses his degree in history and the various crap jobs he’s had to do to survive. Of course we all recognize the tedium of office life, there is a taste of it right here.

There is some nice stuff about describing the limited storage capacity of a cassette tape to a nephew, and some irritating fretting about nearing his 30th birthday.

Towards the end of the set his delivery becomes more hectic, less charming and comfortable, and everyone in the room is sneaking a peek at their watches.

Ultimately it’s all just a little banal, and something of a waste of his abilities. Thomas would do well to find a bull and grab it by the horns, to take a risk here and there. With a bit of oomph he could be such a funny man.
