The man's an utter genius with impeccable comic-timing and jokes that ooze irony. I have seen his Edinburgh preview for "Menage a un" twice so far this summer and I laughed all the way through. I even laughed alone at one point, at a comment about a feminist icon.

I love his quest sagas, but with Ménage à Un he's proved he's equally adept at just an hour of more traditional stand-up. That's not to say he's not got some inventive and original material; if anything it proves you can do a very strong Edinburgh hour without having to pigeon-hole your material into some kind of moral lesson, paradigm or crusade. It's enough to just be really funny, and Herring's new show is.
