This is an intriguing concept: club comics being forced to
deliver their sets without swearing and even sharing the
bill with child stand-ups.
Compere was Janice Phayre, always a high-energy act. If she
can't get an audience in an upbeat mood, then it can't be done.
She was on especially good form this afternoon, winning over
children and parents alike. But she was far too nice when a precocious
child kept interrupting the show. We'd have all been happy had
she slapped him, but she restrained herself. By the end I don't
think that even the boy's parents would have objected.
First of the acts was Pete Jonas, whose material about being
from Australia wasn't that well received by the youngsters, who
just couldn't relate to his material about Neighbours and Home
And Away. But he did raise a titter from the kids when he demonstrated
how he would play tunes on women's 'butt cracks'. Adults, however,
were more receptive to his banter especially the dads.
Next on the bill was a child comic called Chris, understandably
nervous as he took to the stage. However his confidence grew
after the first laugh in a clever, well-written set and pitched
just right. He was adored by all, and no one wanted him to leave
the stage.
The headliner was another Australian, Mickey D, who provided
just the right combination of naughtiness, sarcasm and loud confidence
to please everyone.
The line-ups here change every day, so you can return time
and again, and judging from today's bill be thoroughly
entertained.

And the kids' views...
Janice Phayre was loud and communicated very well with the
audience. She jumped around the stage a lot. The first act she
introduced was Pete Jonas who performed a series of jokes that
were obviously for adults but with the rude words taken out.
Most of the adults laughed but the children were silent throughout.
Next was Chris who was quite funny and he had well written
jokes. Mickey D was on last. He was quite weird, loud and very
energetic. His act was good for adults and children.

Janice Phayre the MC was crazy. I didn't find her jokes funny
but it was funny that she was crazy. Crazy people make me laugh.
Pete Jonas was a saddo. He is cruel. He is boring. I did not
find him funny. Chris was too young to be a comedian and his
cheeks were chubby. He said that his Mum was a chocoholic. There
is no such thing. I think he meant alcoholic. My Mum is one too.
Mickey D also had a chubby face. He told us he had fungus
on his ear. If he did, he is disgusting. He was funny and he
got fired from KFC. I would fire him if he worked for me.
