Bachman and Evans: Special Edition Show type: Edinburgh Fringe 2002
Bachman and Evans: Special Edition

Show Rating:Bachman and Evans: Special Edition rated 3/5

In this, their second Edinburgh show, Bachman and Evans have produced a cheesy buy cheery slice of nonsense that, though slight, is pretty irresistible.

It's a silly tale of an accidental superhero who attained his abilities through the power of Ribena, and his evil nemesis. It will come as no surprise that this is not a penetrating political satire.

Instead it's a funny collection of stupid sight gags, daft wordplay and good old-fashioned mucking about. The duo demand nothing of its audience, yet still reward it with some great ideas and lines.

The set-up that this is a kind of theatrical DVD special edition is fairly irrelevant - all it does is provide the handy conceit for a voiceover commentary to efficiently set the scenes and cover any gaps in the action.

The pacing of the show isn't quite right, with a few sketches going on too long between gags, and occasionally it's a little self-indulgent.

But overall an effortlessly entertaining romp to put a smile on your face.
