Evolution

Show Rating:Evolution rated 3/5

Not as ambitious as it thinks it is, nor as dreadful as it might have been, Evolution is instead just a reasonably amusing, if somewhat formulaic, sketch show.

The theme is fairly loose, allowing skits about sex, genetic engineering - and pretty much any aspect of existence through the ages.
Although patchily written, spirited

performances by the cast make the best of it, and the show zips along at a fair old pace, so even a weak sketch is over before it has time to bore.

Occasionally lazy in its ideas and references (Status Quo being around with the dinosaurs, ho-hum), there are nonetheless some pretty good ideas here, even if they aren't always mined to maximum effect.

It would have been nice if natural selection had applied to the script, so that only the strongest sketches survived, but it remains an entertaining enough show.
