Bruiser

Show Rating:Bruiser rated 5/5

Lano and Woodley might always be destined to be the forgotten Perrier winners. They disappeared back to their native Australia after scooping the title in 1994, and have barely been heard of here since.

And that's a real shame, for as this show convincingly proves, this riotous pair are one of the most unashamedly funny double acts around.

They simply ooze energy, likeability and good old-fashioned goofiness, all packaged in one fast-paced and hilarious show.

Lano and Woodley have mastered the delicate art of appearing to be just mucking about on stage while, in reality, split-second comic timing, perfect lines and brilliant sight gags are all working to build up huge laughs.

It relies on a generous, well-developed partnership, an almost psychic relationship, and a knack of making the most well rehearsed of skits always appear fresh and spontaneous. And these two have such talents in spades.

They combine the likeability of Morecambe and Wise, the spirit of Tiswas and the comic invention of Reeves and Mortimer. And, being Australian, have possibly never heard of any of them.

Their anarchic humour of physical comedy, bickering wit and downright stupidity is an enticing mix, and a guaranteed audience-pleaser.

And some of the ideas in this show - a fairly straightforward story of boy meets girl, boy defeats girl's pumped-up Neanderthal boyfriend in no-holds-barred punch-up, boy winds up back with double act partner - are truly inspired.

If it's pure and simple fun you're after, you can't go far wrong with these guys. Go see.
