Original Review:
This stunningly intelligent and darkhearted comedy is one of the hidden delights of the fringe. A bitter-sweet and poignant tale of family tensions, it's a remarkable show that also manages to be incredibly funny. Much closer to a piece of theatre than your usual character sketch show, their well-crafted work will inevitably be compared to the equally inspired League OfGentlemen. But this is no second-rate derivative, as the sickeningly talented Navelgazing quartet have a genius of their own. Able to tug at the emotions as effectively as they tickle the funnybone, the classy team has created as perfect a comic performance as you'll see anywhere. It's no surprise that the foursome responsible Jack Brough, Jamie Deeks, Dan Johnston and Ewen MacIntosh have landed a sitcom pilot for Channel 4. Remember their names now, they'll be comedy heroes of the future |
