Colin Murphy

Original Review:
Slick and skilful Ulsterman Colin Murphy has the audience in the palm of his hand during this effortlessly enjoyable set. For while his observational humour sometimes lacks an explosive edge, his refreshingly easy-going style alone builds a momentum of laughter. In what is becoming a definite trend this year (see also Dave Gorman and Neil Mullarkey), a sizeable chunk of this hour-long show is dedicated to the subject of names. Stuck for ideas about what to call his own child, he invites the audience to contribute their own unusual monikers. From these, he strides off into his imagination, talking about the images conjured up by each suggestion. From such seemingly slight material, this polished pro fashions a cavalcade of laughs, forming an easy rapport with the audience. Such talent is hard to come by, which suggests Murphy is destined for much greater things. |
