Bernard O'Shea – Original Review

Review by Steve Bennett

Bernard O'Shea is a fizzing, iridescent ball of sheer energy; a fast-talking, fast-thinking comedian who invigorates a room with his presence. He likes to rant and rave without the use of a microphone - any why would he need one? He’s a big enough noise without amplification.

Usually, the kernel of the ideas at the heart of his passionate diatribes is a simple, even familiar one - pleading for more global warming to improve Ireland's climate, for instance - but he takes it to ridiculous extremes. No, forget that. He STARTS at a ridiculous extreme, hitting the subject hard, quickly and ferociously, allowing no room to anticipate the angle he’s coming from.

Such a ballsy, vibrant delivery proves almost impossible to resist as he steamrollers through his sparky material, barely pausing for breath. The gags mightn't all stand up to a more sober delivery, but that's to miss the point. O'Shea's a force of nature, and likely to prove an unstoppable one.
