Roland Gent – Original Review

Note: This review is from 2004

Review by Steve Bennett

Roland Gent starts his punchy set with a giant reproduction of a newspaper story, a hefty prop to be carrying from gig to gig, especially as the only gag to it was the one the Daily Sport sub-editors put on the page in the first place.

Much of his material’s better than that – notably a great proctologist gag, and a deservedly sneery reproach to anyone who considers themselves ‘in marketing’ – but much of it isn’t, with the usual chav mickey-taking.

Delivery, though, is consistently good with Gent’s assured, commanding presence bringing out the best in what he’s got.
