Matt Dyktynski – Original Review

Note: This review is from 2004

Review by Steve Bennett

Though Australian, Dytynski has picked up some of the best and worst traits of the jobbing American comic in his attempts to make the transition from acting to stand-up.

He's slick, professional and, importantly, gets the laughs - but he does so with generic, soulless and quite forgettable material.

It's when he plunges into bad taste that he's at his best, but he too often resorts to knob gags and tales of oral sex that will sound familiar to even the most casual comedy-goer.

Elsewhere, he struggle to extend ideas into longer routines, relying almost entirely on his performance skills (and accents including a more-than-passable Cockney) to get him through.

He's by no means a poor newcomer, it's more that his arrival on the circuit seems reduntant if he doesn't bring anything of himself to the stage. There are already a host of established names covering similar ground, is there really demand for one more?
