David Bloom – Original Review

Note: This review is from 2003

Review by Steve Bennett

A relative newcomer, Bloom has yet to find an individual voice, although there is much to like about his current material.

His set actually works better than you might think it ought, there's some truly dodgy wordplay and some of the gags stretch credibility, though not to the point where you can revel in the outrageousness of it all.

Some of the best lines are where he hasn't gone out-and-out for the punchline, but just by drawing the right image for the topic in hand - most memorably his description of the advertising industry.

He's a bright performer, confident enough to control a room and able to produce some sharp, topical gags from the day's headlines.

All of which points to a sturdy framework on which to flesh out a comedy career.
