Barney Power – Original Review

Note: This review is from 2002

Review by Steve Bennett

With his bold and confident stage manner, Power initially looks like he is going to be an exciting act, unafraid to play with the conventions of stand-up.

However, the illusion is short-lived - and it soon becomes patently obvious that his playful interaction is merely froth, hiding an act woefully thin on substance and laughs.

For once he has grabbed the audience's attention - a skill he has mastered - he doesn't know what to do with it, and trolleys out some instantly forgettable material, virtually void of laughs.

Personality does go a long way in comedy, but there does have to be some grain of content on which to build and this relative newcomer has yet to find even that.
