Howard Read – Original Review

Review by Steve Bennett

Read's inspired daftness and misfit persona make for some wonderfully silly moments.

His snippets of songs - either paeans to less popular fruit and vegetables or subverted samples from classic hits - are the undeniable highlights of a consistently enjoyable set.

He's clearly inspired by Harry Hill, although a bit more linear in his train of thought, even if the relentless barrage of quickfire non-sequiteurs can still leave audience baffled just as easily as leaving them in hysterics.

Read's cheesy energy helps things along, though, backed by spot-on writing that is as original as it is bizzare - and always infused with a healthy streak of fun.
