When Jo Brand's fear of flying went too far
If you ever find yourself sitting next to Jo Brand on a plane, prepare for the worst.
For the comedian has revealed that she hates flying so much that she’s been known to cause a scene in the cabin.
Speaking on Graham Norton’s show tonight, she said: ‘I don’t like flying at all.
‘I was coming back from Malta and had had a few drinks. I didn’t want to be that person but then I suddenly was that person that stood up and said, "We are all going to die."
‘The stewardess actually slapped me and pushed me back into my seat.
‘Since then I have done a course at Heathrow. A pilot tells you all about anxiety but it was the 70-year-old in the toilet illegally selling valium that was the most helpful!’
Brand also told Norton about the travails of being recognised, saying: ‘It is mainly negative.’
She described being in Sainsbury’s when a man came up to her and said: ‘You look like that shit comedian!’’
Brand adds that recognition can also come at the most inopportune moments, recalling: ‘I was having a smear test and the doctor was down at the business end’when he said, "Don’t I recognise you?"’
Brand is on the show to promote her new film, The More You Ignore Me, in which Sheridan Smith plays a woman whose efforts to be a loving mother and wife are undermined by her declining mental health.
She said: ‘I am really proud of it but not sure whether it is good or not. I can’t really believe it has happened.’
The Graham Norton Show is on BBC One at 10.35pm tonight. Next week his guests will include Jennifer Saunders, Beattie Edmondson and Rob Brydon.
