Comic performed stand-up for Steven Spielberg

Filming Schindler's List was understandably traumatic for Steven Spielberg. Fortunately, the director could rely on Robin Williams to cheer him up.

The comedian would call the director while he was on the emotional shoot in Poland and perform stand-up – once a week and always at the same time.

'Robin knew what I was going through,' Spielberg recalled.  'He would do 15 minutes of stand-up on the phone. I would laugh hysterically . . . he’d always hang up on you on the loudest, best laugh you’d give him. Drops the mic, that’s it.’

The pair had become friends during the making of Hook in 1991.

Speaking at a 25th anniversary screening of the haunting Holocaust drama at the Tribeca Film Festival,  Spielberg also revealed that the cast and crew 'watched a lot of Saturday Night Live' to wind down after the gruelling days on set.
