Maria Bamford seeks a restraining order against Donald Trump

President sparks her anxiety and depression

comedyMaria Bamford has filed for a restraining order against Donald Trump to prevent him coming within 1,000 yards of her.

The comic submitted the request at her local courthouse in Los Angeles, stating that the president's incendiary comments about North Korea and Russia have caused her anxiety and depression - specifically his comment that 'I too have a nuclear button and my button works.' She also referenced his remarks about Hillary Clinton.

Bamford live-tweeted the process of filing the paperwork at the courthouse, during which she noted that it's a dumb idea but that she will 'stupidly persist.'

Although she revealed that she had printed out 'all of his public threats of violence' as supporting evidence, her request was ultimately denied. However, she will be able to attend a hearing about her bid next month.

Bamford said her legal move was not a publicity stunt, but simply a case of taking the gag to its logical conclusion.

She tweeted: 'I may stop here because it's getting weird. I think that sometimes comedic premises are rejected as legitimate democratic action. And so I thought I'd follow through.'
