comedy Bluestone 42 writer James Cary has been discussing the perils of naming characters after famous people.

A 2013 episode of the army bomb disposal sitcom that he wrote with Richard Hurst featured a sniffer dog named Monty, presumably christened after the war hero general Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery.

But 'we were going to call the dog Thatcher' he said on his Sitcom Geeks podcast. 'We didn't in the end because statistically we thought she is quite likely to die, round about the time.

'And she did!'
