History Today, Robert Newman and David Baddiel's pair of scholarly professors who descend into increasingly puerile insults, apparently has its own unlikely but illustrious history.

'You know those pinstripe waistcoat and trousers I’m wearing in that sketch?' Newman told the Observer. 'When I took them off, it said Arthur Lowe in them.  They were what Captain Mainwaring wears as the bank manager in Dad’s Army, so they were in two famous comedy shows.'
