Voldemort star to play Mrs Trunchball

Ralph Fiennes, has officially signed on to play the dictatorial headmistress Miss Trunchbull in the movie version of the Matilda musical.

Meanwhile, producers are said to be eager to sign up  Emma Stone to play Miss Honey, the kind-hearted teacher who becomes Matilda's mentor, according to Baz Bamigboye's Daily Mail column. No child actor has yet been cast in the lead role.

The film was originally expected to be shot this autumn, but the schedule is now up in the air, with Voldermrt actor Fiennes long reported to be interested in the villainous role.

It is being financed by Netflix, but is expected to have a UK cinema release before it is released on the streaming platform.

Matthew Warchus, who directed the original stage production, is directing the movie version the musical, written by Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin and based on Roald Dahl's book.

The West End version of the Matilda musical is currently shut down until at least June.
