Aussie comics up for Helpmann Award

Shortlist announced

Some of the best-known names in Australian comedy have been nominated for this year’s Helpmann awards.

They include Lano & Woodley for their comeback show Fly,  I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! host Julia Morris for her stand-up show Lift And Separate Golden Jubilee, and Celia Pacquola for All Talk.

The female-dominated list for best comedy performer also includes Urzila Carlson, Zoe Coombs Marr, Anne Edmonds and Rhys Nicholson.

Named in honour of dancer and director Sir Robert Helpmann, the Helpmann awards, are the most prestigious accolades for live entertainment in Australia.

The award will be presented in Sydney on July 16. Last year’s comedy award went to Hannah Gadsby for her stand-up show Nanette, which launches on Netflix tomorrow.
