Veep stars triumph at Screen Actor Guild awards

...as does William H. Macy for Shameless

Veep won two Screen Actor Guild award last night.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus scooped the award for best female actor in a TV comedy series; with the cast winning the best ensemble in any TV series.

Louis-Dreyfus, who is undergoing breast cancer treatment, missed the Los Angeles ceremony but tweeted: ‘I wish I could have been @SAGawards tonight but have to admit it's pretty fun to watch in my pj's. So honored to win. So proud to be a union member. So happy for my @VeepHBO bozos for winning ensemble award. Miss being at the table with you all. How was the chicken?’

Her two awards make her the most decorated actor in the history of the SAG Awards, with nine wins overall.

William H. Macy won the best male actor in the comedy category for his lead role in the US remake of the British series Shameless.

However, attention was, as always, dominated by movie categories, coming so close to the Oscars. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, scooped three awards and Gary Oldman was named best actor for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.
