Glasgow gets a new comedy club

Weekend gigs in the historic Rotunda

Glasgow has a new comedy club that’s claiming to be Scotland’s largest.

The new gig takes place in the Rotunda – the building near the SSE Hydro that used to be the entrance to the Old Clyde Tunnel and now accommodates several restaurants, which will be offering food to the comedy audience,

The new club has a capacity of 300, 100 more than the Stand in the same city, and will be run by the team behind the Scottish Comedy Awards.

They say: ‘Since Jongleurs closed two years ago the city has been without a proper comedy club where you can also enjoy dinner, late night cocktails and dancing. Time to change that, but with better comedians, better food, better service and a much better venue.’

The venue opens on Friday with former Channel 4 Big Breakfast host and Michael McIntyre warm-up act Paul Tonkinson, pictured  headlining.

It will be open on Friday and Saturday nights, and in November Iain Stirling  will host the Scottish Comedian of the Year final at the venue. Listings
