From doctor to cop

New sitcom for Scrubs star McGinley

Scrubs star John C. McGinley has signed up to star in a new buddy cop sitcom.

The actor, who played sarcastic Dr Cox in the medical sitcom, will play the police commander in the new show, Brothered Up.

Destined for the CBS network, the show stars Romany Malco as an ‘emotionally guarded African-American cop’ and Adhir Kalyan as ‘an emotionally available Pakistani cop’.

Hollywood website Deadline reports that the deal will allow McGinley to continue to star in the  IFC comedy-horror series Stan Against Evil, on which he is also a producer. It begins filming its second season next month.

Brothered Up is written by Mark Gross, who previously worked on Mike And Molly, and directed by sitcom veteran James Burrows.
