Gold commissions new series from writer Jason Cook

Sian Gibson and Johnny Vegas are to reprise their crime-solving roles for a new series of murder-mystery films for Gold.

In Murder They Hope, the pair reprise their roles as Gemma and Terry from the Agatha Christie-inspired whodunits Murder on the Blackpool Express,  Death On The Tyne and Dial M For Middlesbrough.

For the three hour-long episodes – again written by comedian Jason Cook – their characters have quit the coach tour business to set up as private detectives.

Episode one revolves around a mysterious red-eyed rabbit figurine sold at a car boot sale, the second features a poisoned pastry scandal as two rival baking families turn up the heat on a long-standing feud, and the third returns to coach tours as they help police in a county-wide hunt for a bus-based serial killer.

Cook said: ‘Having multiple episodes has really let us go to town in creating a world of eccentric characters and big adventures for my favourite ex-coach driving detectives.’

Pete Thornton, who commissioned the show for UKTV, added: ‘Each story is very different in its own way, but they are all busting with Jason Cook’s trademark mixture of a satisfying whodunit’ with proper laugh out loud comedy.’

Previous instalments have proved huge hits for Gold with Murder On The Blackpool Express attracting 1.8 million viewers during its first week

The new episodes, made by production company Shiny Button. will air next year, with more casting set to be announced later.
