Could the British Comedy Awards be coming back?

C4 considering a successor to the accolades

A successor to the British Comedy Awards could be returning to Channel 4.

The broadcaster is reportedly in talks with producers Hungry Bear Media, which makes Michael McIntyre’s Big Show to air a ceremony as part of its Stand Up To Cancer programming.

Trade website Broadcast says the aim would be to ‘reflect the sense of camaraderie which surrounds the younger generation of talent’.

Channel 4 has previously told producers it was in the market for ‘gigantic, live one-offs…which could feature a wide cast of famous faces’.

Normally hosted by Jonathan Ross, the British Comedy Awards ran for 24 years from 1990 originally on ITV. They moved to Channel 4 in 2011 following a row over vote-rigging.
