Comedians take part in TV portrait contest

Vic Reeves, Joe Lycett, Josie Long and Phill Jupitus are to put their artistic talents to the test on one of the more erudite celebrity programmes of the festive period.

The quartet will be showing off their talents in Celebrity Portrait Artist of the Year for Sky Arts on December 18.

They will be joined by actress Maureen Lipman and meteorologist Tomasz Schafernaker as they attempt to capture sitters Billy Howle, Howard Jacobson and Kanya King on canvas.

Reeves is an accomplished artist who has held several exhibitions of his surreal work, while Lycett was accepted into the Royal Academy’s prestigious summer exhibition this year with his sculpture of a human head, Chris, which he had given a £12.5million price tag.

Art-lover Jupitus runs tours of the National Galleries of Scotland during the Edinburgh Fringe, sketching versions of the great works on an iPad app, while Long’s public fine-art endeavours have largely been limited to sketches in the home-drawn programmes she hands out at gigs.
