Plan for a full series from West End farce group

The BBC is hoping to sign the team behind West End hit The Play That Goes Wrong to make a full series of family-friendly comedies

Mischief Theatre have previously made the Christmas specials Peter Pan Goes Wrong and A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong for BBC One.

Now BBC comedy chief Shane Allen says he wants to sign up the troupe – who are also behind the stage show The Comedy About a Bank Robbery – in his search for the next mainstream hit.

‘The guys who did The Play That Goes Wrong, we’re hoping to get a series out of them,’ Allen said at the launch of a batch of new BBC comedy programmes today.

‘Really popular family pieces, that’s the thing that’s hardest to do, pre-watershed family pieces that are quite broad.  Anything without swearing is quite hard to do.’
