Armando Iannucci adds Paul Whitehouse to the cast, too

This Country star Daisy May Cooper and Paul Whitehouse have joined the cast of Armando Iannucci's The Personal History Of David Copperfield.

It is the first feature film role for Cooper, who won this year's Bafta for best female comedy performance as Kerry in the BBC Three comedy, while Whitehouse starred in Iannucci's last movie, The Death Of Stalin.

They join the already announced Dev Patel, Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Peter Capaldi and Ben Whishaw as filming gets under way in the UK today.

Also added to the cast are Gwendoline Christie, best known for playing  Brienne of Tarth Game Of Thrones, and Benedict Wong, who is Wong in Avengers: Infinity War.

As well as directing, Iannucci also wrote the script with Simon Blackwell, his long-term collaborator from In The Loop, and is producing with his  Death Of Stalin colleague Kevin Loader.

The film is described as ‘a fresh and distinctive take on Charles Dickens’ semi-autobiographical masterpiece’. Set in the 1840s, it chronicles the life of its title character from unhappy childhood to the discovery of his gift as a storyteller and writer
