Sally Phillips to host My Favourite Sketch for Gold

Guests to plunder the archives for their top skits

Sally Phillps is to host a new archive series for Gold in which comedians pick their favourite sketches of all time.

Each hour-long episode features one comedy name giving a run-down of the skits that inspired them, akin to Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs.

Guests in the first series of six programmes are Jessica Hynes, Jason Manford, Bob Mortimer, Sue Perkins, Johnny Vegas, and Paul Whitehouse.

The programme, made by The Chase producers Potato, promises  ‘fascinating anecdotes and behind the scenes information about the sketches in question’. At the end of each episode, Sally and her guest will re-enact their No.1 favourite.

Phillips, who shot to prominence via the sketch show Smack The Pony, said: ‘Sketch comedy holds a dear place in my heart and I’m looking forward to discussing it with my guests across this exciting new series.’

Iain Coyle, who commissioned the series for Gold, said: ‘This is a brilliant, simple idea and I can’t wait to see what sketches my comedy heroes choose. From Two Soups to Mulligan and O'Hare, some of my favourite TV moments are in the sketch genre and Sally has such amazing comedy credentials, she’s the perfect host for this.’

My Favourite Sketch will air on Gold later this year.

Phillips is also piloting a radio panel show with Jayde Adams and is to star in a forthcoming BBC mockumentary about the Welsh tourist board entitled The Tourist Trap.
