Sir Ken is coming out of hospital after six weeks

Sir Ken Dodd is leaving hospital after his successful treatment for a severe chest infection.

The 90-year-old comedian was admitted to Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital six weeks ago – but will be heading home today.

Speaking to the BBC, he said: ‘I have been so very, well-treated and I can't praise the staff at the hospital too highly. They have been absolutely wonderful.

He added that while recovering, the  ‘love and affection of people has made me cry’.

Sir Ken was less happy with those who had spread false rumours of his death online, previously describing them as ‘monsters’ and ‘evil’.

He also said he had ‘been through a very, very dark place’ with his illness.
