Channel 4 launches a hidden camera show – with a feminist twist

...featuring the daughter of spin doctor Alistair Campbell

Channel 4 has ordered a feminist hidden camera prank show – featuring the daughter of Tony Blair’s former spin doctor Alistair Campbell.

Grace Campbell, a film-maker and comedian, will join Sophie Duker, Jen Wakefield and Cam Spence in the one-off, entitled Riot Girls.

The broadcaster describes the team as 'some of the UK’s most outspoken and exciting comedic talents’ and ‘funny and forthright feminists’.

In the half-hour show, the quartet will tackle issues from the gender pay gap to the sculpting of pubic hair, as well as seeing how passengers deal with them ‘woman-spreading’ into their space on public transport.

Channel 4 commissioning editor Becky Cadman said: ‘Grace, Sophie, Jen and Cam are four of the freshest comedic talents around at the moment so we are delighted to be working with them on this entertaining and audacious prank show.’

While Gary Reich, executive producer for programme-makers Brown Eyed Boy added: ‘There has never been a more important moment for young women’s voices to be heard, especially when they go about it in such mischievous, riotous ways. And as the home of great mischief we couldn’t be happier to be doing so on Channel 4.’

Campbell, 22, also has a sitcom in development with Brown Eyed Boy about her experiences growing up, provisionally called Politician’s Kids.

Duker took part in the Pleasance Comedy Reserve at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe; Wakefield formerly performed as half of the sketch comedy duo Jiggle & Hyde; while Spence made her Edinburgh debut with The Matriarchy Experience last year.

Brown Eyed Boy previously made the female-led hidden camera show Three Non Blondes featuring Tameka Empson, Jocelyn Jee Esien, and Ninia Benjamin.

Riot Girls, which is still a working title, will air later this year.
