'It is the kind of show you dream of hosting as a kid'

Jack Whitehall is to host the Brit Awards for the first time next year.

He follows in the footsteps of fellow comics James Corden, Peter Kay, Russell Brand, Frank Skinner and Ben Elton, who have all previously hosted the ceremony.

The comic – who has previously hosted the Royal Variety Performance and The Britannia Awards in Los Angeles – said: ‘I’m thrilled to be hosting The Brits, it is the kind of show you dream of hosting as a kid, so really excited to have been asked.’

Awards chairman Jason Iley said: ‘Jack is one of the biggest talents in the UK.  He is a truly natural performer who brings enormous enthusiasm, charisma, fun and passion to all his work. '

He added that Whiteall was 'one of the most in-demand names in the industry', saying: 'This is going to make for an exceptional night, along with performances from some of the biggest names in music.’

The ceremony will be held at London's O2 Arena on February 21 an air on ITV.

Dermot O'Leary and Emma Willis hosted this year’s Brit awards.
