Writers' Guild Award nominees out

Inside No. 9, the Mitchell and Webb vehicle Back and cult BBC Three comedy This Country have all been nominated for awards by The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain.

The shows are all shortlisted in the best TV sitcom category. This Country and Inside No 9 are written by their stars Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper, and Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith – while Back is penned by Simon Blackwell.

Up for best radio comedy are Sarah Kendall’s Australian Trilogy, written by the comedian herself, John Finnemore’s Double Acts, and Kevin Eldon Will See You Now, which the star wrote with Jason Hazeley and Joel Morris.

And for best online comedy the shortlist is Marek Larwood’s Showreel For One Word Or Less Parts, Meet The City Boys Secretly Voting For Corbyn! by Gabriel Bisset-Smith and A Hard Brexit by Barney Fishwick and Will Hislop, the double act also known as Giants.

The awards will be presented on Monday January15 at the Royal College of Physicians in central London.

WGGB President Olivia Hetreed said the nominees ‘represent the best of British writing, adding: ‘They are all selected by working writers… It is that judgement by peers that makes these awards uniquely special to the winners.’
