Shappi skydives into the jungle

Day one of I'm A Celebrity

Our daily kangaroo-testicle-sized round-up of what happened to Shappi Khorsandi in the I’m A Celebrity jungle…

• The celebrities were paired up; Shappi was buddied with Stanley Johnson, the 77-year-old father of Foreign Secretary Boris, of whom the comic has been critical. On meeting, Stanley turned to Shappi and said "I’m a happy chappy Shappi.’ ‘Stanley and I are such polar opposites we can only get on,’ Shappi said. ‘He’s the cheese to my onion, the salt to my vinegar.’

•  Some of the celebrities went to do a ‘walk the plank’ challenge 334 feet up on the roof of a Gold Coast building. But Shappi was dropped a jungle clearing where she read her challenge, which involved skydiving into a lake and setting off a flare. She added: ‘Jumping out of an aeroplane and falling has throughout my life been my worst nightmare.  It’s been my recurring nightmare.  That and being eaten by lions.’

• When it came to it she repeated: ‘I have no fear’ as she jumped out.  ‘I can’t open my eyes but I’m sure it’s beautiful,’ she said. As she landed she said: ‘Without a doubt, that is the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done.  I’ve done my part.  That deserves a meal ticket’. But Stanley got his part of the challenge wrong – so no meal ticket.  ‘It doesn’t matter.  I'm not hungry anyway,’ she said.

• However, when it was later revealed what their basic rations of rice and beans was, Shappi said:  ‘To be honest, I’m not being ungrateful, but my guinea pigs get more than this a day.’

The others taking part are Stanley Johnson, Jennie McAlpine, Rebekah Vardy, Dennis Wise,  Jack Maynard, Jamie Lomas, Georgia Toffolo, Vanessa White and Amir Khan.

• I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! is on ITV nightly at 9pm, with Extra Camp on ITV2 immediately afterwards.
