Susan Calman's back in the jiving seat

Comic makes the top five in this week's Strictly

Susan Calman staged a remarkable comeback on Stricly Come Dancing tonight following her disappointing showing last week.

Her jive to This Ole House with professional dance partner Kevin Clifton landed them fifth place on the leaderboard, with 29 points out of 40.

Judge Craig Revel Horwood, who gave the pair just three points out of ten last week, said: 'It is a vast improvement on last week.'

But he added: 'It is sadly a little flat. You are not quite doing the preparation for the kick. The timing was fantastic and the synchronicity was amazing.'

Still, he gave them six points.

Awarding an eight, Bruno Tonioli gushed: 'She is back on the market! You didn't sell this jive - you gazumped it - you were pumping it! She was giving it everything she had. Great rhythm and timing. Well done! You are back.'

Darcey Bussell, awarding seven, said: 'Susan, you were pumping out those kicks. The energy did not fail at all. Well done on the stamina. You were constantly coming back into synch on the sequencing and I loved your facial expressions. They were priceless. I would have liked a little more contraction, but this is your dance.'

Shirley Ballas, giving eight, said: 'You can jive around my kitchen any day of the week. You gave us some slick. You showed you can use pure basics and still give entertainment. You are back. You did very well.'

Before the show, Calman had tweeted: 'If you don't enjoy our dance that's absolutely fine. I'm just a girl, standing in front of the country, asking you to like my jive.'

Debbie McGee and Giovanni Pernice lead the table after achieving the first 40 perfect point score of the series. Ruth Langsford and Anton Du Beke are last with 22.They suffered a fall at the end of their paso doble to The Shady Dame From Seville by Dame Julie Andrews.
