Outnumbered is coming back

Says star Hugh Dennis

Outnumbered is returning to TV, star Hugh Dennis has revealed.

The star told Lorraine Kelly that the success of the Christmas special will lead to more one-offs on BBC One.

But he added: ‘I doubt there will be another series.

Dennis said yesterday: ‘There will be more specials because that does seem to work. The special we did last year really worked.

‘I think the key to its success is that people talk on the show the way people speak in real life – so it never feels like lines.’

Known for its semi-improvised style that drew naturalistic performances from its child actors Tyger Drew-Honey, Daniel Roche and Ramona Marquez, Outnumbered ran for five series from 2007 to 2014. The team also made four specials, the last of which aired on Boxing Day.

Dennis  added: ’The kids on the show aren't kids now, but luckily kids tend to live at home with their parents now 'til they're about 40 so it can still work.’

Kelly suggested the show could even continue with Dennis’s character Pete Brockman as a grandfather.
