Another BBC One Saturday night show for Rob Beckett

Comic continues his primetime takeover

Rob Beckett has been signed up to front yet another  Saturday night BBC One show.

The comedian – who was last month announced as the host of singing show  All Together Now – will co-present  Wedding Day Winners with Lorraine Kelly from next spring.

Each week two happy couples, poised to tie the knot, will go compete to win fabulous prizes,  including a dream honeymoon, and a lavish wedding ceremony to be broadcast to the nation.

Friends and families of each couple will take part in physical games, high adrenalin stunts, and challenges to win the prices. Executive producer Moira Ross, of Panda TV, calls it ‘a love child of your favourite romcom and classic warm hearted game show’.

Beckett also has his own BBC One sitcom pilot, Static, which will air as part of the Comedy Playhouse strand at 10.40pm tomorrow.

He said: ‘When I was told that I'd be presenting Wedding Day Winners with the legend that is Lorraine Kelly, I was so excited, that in true wedding tradition I immediately put a tie around my head and started belting out Come On Eileen at the top of my voice. Unfortunately, I was on the bus at the time.’

Lorraine Kelly added: ‘I am so excited about this show. There will be laughter and tears and lots of fun. Everyone loves a wedding and it will be wonderful to share such a life affirming event with our couples. It's a show all the family can watch together and perfect for a Saturday night.’

Kate Phillips, the controller of BBC Entertainment, said Kelly landed the job ’after seeing her impeccable comic timing and versatility on BBC Three hit Murder in Successville.’
