HOOD ADJACENT WITH JAMES DAVIS: Comedy Central imports this series from its US cousin, a collection of sketches, pranks and vox pops interspersed with stand-up about modern black culture in America. In the first episode, Davis - who comes from South Central Los Angeles but not the part hit by riots – explores ‘the Hood’: what it means and why it’s only glamorised or ‘villainised’ by the media. Comedy Central, 11.30pm

GRAND DESIGNS OF THE THIRD KIND:This one-off Radio 4 drama from comedian Toby Hadoke is about a wheelchair user, Hal, whose house renovations take a weird turn. ‘It’s a bit autobiographical,’ says Hadoke, ‘My partner [Coronation Street actress Cherylee Houston] is a wheelchair user and we've spent the past two years renovating a house. It was pretty stressful, so I've thrown a few aliens in the mix to keep it jolly. It's a comedic premise with a serious message at its heart - hopefully everyone will identify with the "moving house" bit, and then enjoy the curveball that I throw in from outer space.’ Radio 4, 2.15pm

Tuesday September 5

THE RED: This is Marcus Brigstocke’s first drama for radio, and revolves around Benedict, an alcoholic who has been sober for 25 years who finds that his wine-collector father left him an unsettling final request. The play - which is based on Brigstocke's own experience of recovery - was recorded in a 400-year-old wine cellar and stars Rufus Jones and David Calder. Radio 4, 2.15pm

Wednesday September 6

BACK: David Mitchell and Robert Webb reunite in this new sitcom in which Stephen (Mitchell) inherits the family pub after his father’s death - but then Andrew (Webb), one of the many children his parents fostered, turns up Out of the Blue and threatens to overturn the new life of his ‘sibling'. Writer Simon Blackwell explains more about the series here. Channel 4. 10pm

RELATIVITY: Richard Herring stars alongside Alison Steadman and Phil Davies in this new four-part comedy series about four generations of the same family. Radio 4 says it will ‘resonate with anyone who has ever argued with their dad about how to pronounce crisp brand names'. Radio 4, 11.30am

Friday September 8

MISTER WINNER: Spencer Jones stars in the latest Comedy Playhouse pilot as Leslie Winner, a well-meaning but hapless chap who is prone to accidents. In this trial episode he plans to propose to his girlfriend, Jemma (Aimee-Ffion Edwards), but unknown to him, she is having doubts about their relationship as he doesn’t take life seriously enough. Romesh Ranganathan has a guest role in the show, which has been written by Russell Brand’s long-term collaborator Matt Morgan, who also worked on Ivan Brackenbury’s Hospital People. BBC One, 10.35pm
