Buttock-baring, critic-baiting comedy up for theatre award

A show in which three international female comedy performers respond to their reviews has been nominated for a Total Theatre Award at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Wild Bore features Zoe Coombs-Marr, Ursula Martinez and Adrienne Truscott discussing ‘the torrent of critical fury that has been aimed at baffling, misunderstood and downright awful works of art (including their own)’.

Playing at the Traverse Theatre, it has been shortlisted in the category for ‘innovation, experimentation and playing with form’. Other awards celebrate physical & visual theatre, emerging companies and artists, circus and "dance

The show features the performers baring their buttocks to show critics almost literally talking out of their arses.

It has received a five-star review from The List, for ‘using the comments of reviewers as a foundation for a broad look at conventional narratives and exploding them with cabaret glee’.

But it has received the feat of scoring every star rating, including a one-star from The Times (‘an exercise in self-referential, stage-centric, obsessive navel-gazing’), two from The Telegraph, three from BritishTheatre.com and four from The Stage.

Seven awards will be given across the five Total Theatre  Award categories at a ceremony next Thursday.
