Comedians to stage a musical – on ice

With Tony Law and the Weirdos collective

Tony Law and the alternative comedians of the Weirdos collective are to stage a new comedy musical – on ice.

The Battle for Icetopia will take place at the Alexandra Palace ice rink in London, and will also feature Ali Brice, Marny Godden, Joz Norris, Michael Brunstrom, Matt Tedford, Holly Burn, Elf Lyons, Eleanor Morton, Matthew Highton, Ben Target and Bob Slayer.

Weirdos mastermind Adam Larter will write and direct what is being described as ‘the most original and ambitious comedy project of recent years [as] a cast of fantastic comic talents, skate, sing and goof their way through a dystopian future of love, war and ice.’

He told Chortle: ‘In the world of Icetopia, Tony has to keep his life on track while facing extreme weather, an extreme love story, the most extreme villains... all while trying to pull off the odd pirouette and triple salchow.

‘Tony's got skating skills that Bolero-era Jayne Torvill would envy - let's hope that's still true after the show on October 14. If we all survive the performance, there's an ice disco afterwards.’

A fundraiser to help stage the show is taking place at the Edinburgh Fringe tonight, with Law appearing alongside  John Kearns, Sam Simmonds, Bec Hill and others. It’s at Heroes @ Monkey Barrel at 7.40pm and advance tickets are available here.

Law said: ‘Tony Law on Ice is an important project because it allows Tony Law to go on ice. We need to raise money to cover insurance. And ice.’
