Helpmann accolade for her stand-up show Nanette

Hannah Gadsby has been hailed in Australia’s most prestigious awards for live performance.

She was named best comedy performer at this year's Helpmann Awards for her stand-up show Nanette, which she says will be her last.

It is heading to the Edinburgh Fringe next month, where it plays at the Assembly George Square Theatre.

Gadsby took the accolade ahead of fellow nominees Tom Ballard, Nazeem Hussain, Aunty Donna, Joel Creasey and Sammy J.

The Book Of Mormon, from South Park creators  Matt Stone and Trey Parker, was named best musical after finally arriving in Australia, and Nick Cave and Patti Smith won separate awards for their concerts.
